| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives offer our most sincere congratulations to | ||||||
| 4 | Wayne and Mary Lou Cowlishaw on their 50th wedding anniversary; | ||||||
| 5 | and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Wayne and Mary Lou were married on July 24, 1954, | ||||||
| 7 | and their love has grown deeper and stronger with every year of | ||||||
| 8 | marriage; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The two first met when Wayne attended a semester | ||||||
| 10 | at the University of Illinois and their love began to blossom; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Wayne and Mary Lou have called Naperville their | ||||||
| 13 | home for more than 40 years and are the proud parents of three | ||||||
| 14 | children, Beth (husband David) McDaniel, John (wife Jane) | ||||||
| 15 | Cowlishaw, and Paula (husband Andrew) Rader; and the | ||||||
| 16 | grandparents of eight grandchildren, Jacob McDaniel, Zachery, | ||||||
| 17 | Maxwell, Alexandria, and Rachel Cowlishaw and Emily, | ||||||
| 18 | Elizabeth, and John Paul Rader; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Wayne holds an engineering degree from Purdue | ||||||
| 20 | University and Mary Lou is a journalism graduate of the | ||||||
| 21 | University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Mary Lou Cowlishaw served the | ||||||
| 23 | Illinois General Assembly as a State Representative for 10 | ||||||
| 24 | consecutive terms, representing the Naperville area for nearly | ||||||
| 25 | 20 years; and | ||||||
| 26 |
WHEREAS, Mary Lou continues to share her time and | ||||||
| 27 | knowledge with students and the community as a faculty member | ||||||
| 28 | at North Central College in Naperville; and
| ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Wayne is the Vice President of the prestigious | ||||||
| 2 | firm of Sheaffer and Roland Inc. and continues to be invaluable | ||||||
| 3 | with his training as a civil engineer; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The strong bond between the Cowlishaws is evident | ||||||
| 5 | in that Mary Lou had never removed her wedding ring until | ||||||
| 6 | recently when she injured her hand and had to have it cut from | ||||||
| 7 | her finger; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Fifty years of marriage have not dimmed their love | ||||||
| 9 | as they remain committed to one another and their family; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Cowlishaw family has shared Mary Lou's wisdom, | ||||||
| 11 | kindness, and love with the Illinois General Assembly during | ||||||
| 12 | her tenure; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Because of their sacrifice, Mary Lou was able to | ||||||
| 14 | become the ranking Republican member of the House Elementary | ||||||
| 15 | and Secondary Education Committee where she was a strong | ||||||
| 16 | advocate for education and championed innovative approaches to | ||||||
| 17 | increase student learning and teacher quality; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Mary Lou once stated that "The two wisest things I | ||||||
| 19 | have ever done in my 72 years of life are to marry Wayne and to | ||||||
| 20 | retire from the legislature before complete insanity took over | ||||||
| 21 | in Springfield"; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, The Cowlishaws serve as an example of how together | ||||||
| 23 | two people can conquer all and have a successful marriage based | ||||||
| 24 | on truth and partnership; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 25 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 26 | NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 27 | offer our congratulations to Wayne and Mary Lou Cowlishaw on | ||||||
| 28 | the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and we wish them | ||||||
| 29 | many 50 more years of love and happiness together; and be it | ||||||
