HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, July 23, 2004 marks Bruce Sagan's 51st year as publisher of the Hyde Park Herald newspaper; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sagan's vigorous, fair, and insightful leadership has made the Herald one of Chicago's most respected newspapers; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sagan's commitment to ethical journalism and editorial independence has not only reflected but also helped to shape the voice and character of Hyde Park; and

WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Mr. Sagan's amiable and focused leadership has provided fertile ground for countless employees, colleagues, and friends; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sagan's determined and enlightened reporting on Urban Renewal made the Herald one of the most accurate historical records of that period; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sagan has provided leadership to the Hyde Park community as a businessman, journalist, and cultural visionary; and

WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, the Hyde Park Herald and the neighborhood have greatly benefited from the contributions of Bruce Sagan; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend our heartiest congratulations to Bruce Sagan on his 50th anniversary of ownership of the Hyde Park Herald, and we commend Mr. Sagan for his 50 years of outstanding journalism and service to the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That, as a formal indication of our recognition and with a tip of our collective hats, a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bruce Sagan and to the Hyde Park Herald.
