| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Indigency has been a persistent social problem
|
| 3 |
| throughout history and has reached an intolerable level
|
| 4 |
| throughout our country; and |
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, People in urban, suburban, and rural areas of
|
| 6 |
| Illinois experience indigency, proving that it is not just a
|
| 7 |
| big city problem; and |
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Each year sees an increase in the number of
deaths |
| 9 |
| among those who lack funds to provide the barest
essentials of |
| 10 |
| life; and |
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Bitter cold winters and extremely hot summers
have |
| 12 |
| cost the lives of those individuals who simply could not afford |
| 13 |
| heating or air coolants and died from exposure; and |
| 14 |
|
WHEREAS, In remembering those who have died, we must
reach |
| 15 |
| out to help those in need; the extent to which our
society can |
| 16 |
| counter the effects of indigency is a good
measure of its |
| 17 |
| humaneness; therefore, be it |
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 |
| proclaim Wednesday, May, 26, 2004, as "We Remember, We Care for |
| 21 |
| Indigent Persons Day in Illinois", and that we urge all |
| 22 |
| citizens to observe, inform themselves of, and support efforts |
| 23 |
| to care for the indigent; and be it further
|
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 25 |
| presented to W. Earl Lewis, Director of the Memorial Ministry |
| 26 |
| of Indigent Persons.
