| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of |
| 3 |
| cancer deaths in men and women combined in the United States; |
| 4 |
| and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, It is estimated that in the year 2004, nearly |
| 6 |
| 147,000 new cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed in the |
| 7 |
| United States; and |
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, In the year 2004, the disease is expected to kill |
| 9 |
| over 56,700 individuals in this country; and |
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, An estimated 6,680 individuals in the State of |
| 11 |
| Illinois will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the year |
| 12 |
| 2004; and |
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Screening for colorectal cancer is underutilized, |
| 14 |
| regular screenings can detect polyps that lead to colorectal |
| 15 |
| cancer and can save lives; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Adopting a healthy diet at a young age can |
| 17 |
| significantly reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer; |
| 18 |
| and |
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, March is also designated as National Nutrition |
| 20 |
| Awareness Month; and |
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Education can help inform the public of methods of |
| 22 |
| prevention and symptoms of early detection; and |
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should help inform the |
| 24 |
| public about colorectal cancer prevention and screening; |
| 25 |
| therefore be it
