| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, There are few positive programs for inmates at |
| 3 |
| Stateville Prison, a maximum-security prison with about 2,700 |
| 4 |
| inmates; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Stateville Speaks is a newspaper written entirely |
| 6 |
| by inmates and printed by voluntary donations at no cost to the |
| 7 |
| Department of Corrections; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Stateville Speaks provides inmates an opportunity |
| 9 |
| for self-expression and promotes a safe environment at |
| 10 |
| Stateville Prison; therefore, be it
|
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 13 |
| strongly urge the Department of Corrections to allow inmates at |
| 14 |
| Stateville Prison to publish a quarterly newspaper, with each |
| 15 |
| issue being approved by the Department of Corrections before |
| 16 |
| distribution; and be it further
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to |
| 18 |
| the Department of Corrections.
