| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Millions of cases of illness among office workers |
| 3 |
| each year could be prevented by installing germ-killing lights |
| 4 |
| in ventilation systems; and |
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Central air conditioning systems are almost |
| 6 |
| always contaminated with microbes like bacteria, fungi, and |
| 7 |
| protozoa, which have been linked to a variety of health |
| 8 |
| problems, including respiratory illness, skin irritation, and |
| 9 |
| congestion; and |
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, If irradiation systems were used in most North |
| 11 |
| American offices, work-related medical symptoms could be |
| 12 |
| prevented for about 4 million employees, saving employers $5 |
| 13 |
| billion to $75 billion a year; and |
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The level of illnesses in buildings that have |
| 15 |
| installed germ-killing lights in ventilation systems has been |
| 16 |
| significantly reduced; therefore, be it
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 |
| urge the Department of Public Health to study and report to the |
| 20 |
| General Assembly by January 1, 2005 on the installation of |
| 21 |
| ultraviolet germicidal irradiation equipment in private and |
| 22 |
| public work spaces; and be it further
|
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 24 |
| delivered to the Director of Public Health.
