| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize citizens of the |
| 4 |
| State who have accomplished much; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, George Henry Stanton Jr. was the second child born |
| 6 |
| to Veola (married Ross Dreher) and George H. Stanton; he |
| 7 |
| attended Gillespie Elementary and Calumet High School, and |
| 8 |
| graduated from Harlan High School; he received a Bachelor of |
| 9 |
| Arts degree from Chicago Teachers College and a Master of |
| 10 |
| Education degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago; |
| 11 |
| and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton taught physical education for many |
| 13 |
| years at several locations, including Whitney Young Magnet |
| 14 |
| High, Metcalfe Magnet Elementary, John Hope Middle, Mt. Vernon |
| 15 |
| Elementary, and Altgeld Elementary; he currently serves as a |
| 16 |
| sports administrator for the Chicago Public Schools; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton coached at several schools; at Whitney |
| 18 |
| Young, his career record was 236 wins and 90 losses; in 1998, |
| 19 |
| his team had a record of 30 wins and one loss, was the State |
| 20 |
| champion, and was ranked number two in the nation; in 1997, his |
| 21 |
| team had a record of 30 wins and 2 losses, was the city |
| 22 |
| champion, and was ranked number eight in the nation; in 1996, |
| 23 |
| 1994, 1993, 1991, and 1989, the team was a city |
| 24 |
| quarterfinalist; when he coached freshmen and sophomores at |
| 25 |
| Simeon High, his career record was 181 wins and 21 losses; in |
| 26 |
| 1987, 1986, and 1985, his Simeon team was city champion and in |
| 27 |
| 1984 and 1982, it was city champion runner-up; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton has received many awards during his |
| 29 |
| coaching/teaching career; in 1999, he was inducted into the |
| 30 |
| Chicago Public League Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame; in 1998, |
| 31 |
| he was named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association State |
