Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution to provide that a marriage can only be between one man and one woman. Proposes any relationship between persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |

| SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the |
| 6 |
| electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general |
| 7 |
| election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of |
| 8 |
| this resolution a proposition to add Section 9 to Article XIII |
| 9 |
| of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

| GENERAL PROVISIONS

| SECTION 9. SAME SEX MARRIAGE
|
| 15 |
| Only marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid |
| 16 |
| or recognized in Illinois. The uniting of persons of the same |
| 17 |
| sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar |
| 18 |
| same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in |
| 19 |
| Illinois.

| SCHEDULE

| This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being |
| 22 |
| declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois |
| 23 |
| Constitutional Amendment Act.
