SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On April 28, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a
3vehicle crashed into YNOT Outdoors, an after-school facility
4at 301 Breckenridge Road in Chatham, resulting in the deaths
5of five young people and the injuries of several others; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The five individuals who succumbed to their
7injuries sustained in the incident were Rylee D. Britton of
8Springfield, age 18, Alma L. Buhnerkempe of Chatham, age 7,
9Kathryn S. Corley of Chatham, age 7, Ainsley G. Johnson of
10Chatham, age 8, and Bradley J. Lund of Springfield, age 8; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rylee Britton was born on November 8, 2006, and
12she passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her passing,
13she was a senior at Glenwood High School who worked as a
14counselor at YNOT Outdoors and planned to attend the
15University of Iowa; she loved music, performing in productions
16at the Hoogland Center for the Arts and Theatre in the Park;
17she was known for her courageous and kindhearted nature,
18facing every challenge with a brave smile while inspiring
19those around her, and her infectious positivity and warmth
20touched everyone she met; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was born on July 10, 2017, and
22she passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her passing,

1she was a second grader at Chatham Elementary School; she was a
2social butterfly who could talk to anyone and had a strong
3sense of community, fostered by the Girl Scouts, and she was a
4devoted sister who loved spending time with her family,
5especially her cousins; she had an infectious energy, a goofy
6sense of humor, and a boundless sense of compassion; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Kathryn Corley was born on June 22, 2017, and she
8passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her passing, she
9was a second grader at Chatham Elementary School; she was a
10dedicated helper, a goofball who enjoyed performing silly
11dances or showing off her signature funny face, and a devoted
12Taylor Swift fan; she enjoyed suggesting family movie nights
13and organizing fun activities for her younger cousins; she was
14an old soul known for her sincere empathy and kindness,
15putting the wants and needs of others before her own; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ainsley Johnson was born on February 16, 2017,
17and she passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her
18passing, she was a second grader at Glenwood Elementary
19School; she enjoyed dancing at Studio M Dance Center and
20participating as a soccer player with the Springfield Area
21Soccer Association (SASA) Youth Recreational League; she was
22also a music lover, often singing along to any song she heard
23and borrowing her father's AirPods while he was mowing to
24listen along with him; and

1    WHEREAS, Bradley Lund was born on April 4, 2017, and he
2passed away on June 2, 2025; at the time of his passing, he was
3a second grader at Glenwood Elementary School; he delighted in
4the simple joys of childhood and possessed a heart full of
5wonder and a limitless capacity for joy; he found comfort in
6story time snuggles with his mom and was an avid volunteer
7alongside his family; he was a playful spirit known for his
8curiosity, laughter, compassion, creativity, and the quiet joy
9he radiated; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Although their lives were far too brief, these
11five victims each brought unimaginable joy and light into the
12lives of their respective families and friends, and their
13legacies will live on through their loved ones, their
14communities, and countless others who share in the grief of
15these promising youths being tragically taken too soon;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that, on the one year
19anniversary of this incident, we mourn the loss and celebrate
20the lives of the five young victims of the Chatham YNOT
21tragedy, Rylee D. Britton, Alma L. Buhnerkempe, Kathryn S.
22Corley, Ainsley G. Johnson, and Bradley J. Lund, and we extend
23our sincere condolences to their families, friends, and all

1who knew and loved them; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
3presented to the families of Rylee Britton, Alma Buhnerkempe,
4Kathryn Corley, Ainsley Johnson, and Bradley Lund as an
5expression of our deepest sympathy.
