| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, On April 28, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a | ||||||
| 3 | vehicle crashed into YNOT Outdoors, an after-school facility | ||||||
| 4 | at 301 Breckenridge Road in Chatham, resulting in the deaths | ||||||
| 5 | of five young people and the injuries of several others; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The five individuals who succumbed to their | ||||||
| 7 | injuries sustained in the incident were Rylee D. Britton of | ||||||
| 8 | Springfield, age 18, Alma L. Buhnerkempe of Chatham, age 7, | ||||||
| 9 | Kathryn S. Corley of Chatham, age 7, Ainsley G. Johnson of | ||||||
| 10 | Chatham, age 8, and Bradley J. Lund of Springfield, age 8; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Rylee Britton was born on November 8, 2006, and | ||||||
| 12 | she passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her passing, | ||||||
| 13 | she was a senior at Glenwood High School who worked as a | ||||||
| 14 | counselor at YNOT Outdoors and planned to attend the | ||||||
| 15 | University of Iowa; she loved music, performing in productions | ||||||
| 16 | at the Hoogland Center for the Arts and Theatre in the Park; | ||||||
| 17 | she was known for her courageous and kindhearted nature, | ||||||
| 18 | facing every challenge with a brave smile while inspiring | ||||||
| 19 | those around her, and her infectious positivity and warmth | ||||||
| 20 | touched everyone she met; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was born on July 10, 2017, and | ||||||
| 22 | she passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her passing, | ||||||

| 1 | she was a second grader at Chatham Elementary School; she was a | ||||||
| 2 | social butterfly who could talk to anyone and had a strong | ||||||
| 3 | sense of community, fostered by the Girl Scouts, and she was a | ||||||
| 4 | devoted sister who loved spending time with her family, | ||||||
| 5 | especially her cousins; she had an infectious energy, a goofy | ||||||
| 6 | sense of humor, and a boundless sense of compassion; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Kathryn Corley was born on June 22, 2017, and she | ||||||
| 8 | passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her passing, she | ||||||
| 9 | was a second grader at Chatham Elementary School; she was a | ||||||
| 10 | dedicated helper, a goofball who enjoyed performing silly | ||||||
| 11 | dances or showing off her signature funny face, and a devoted | ||||||
| 12 | Taylor Swift fan; she enjoyed suggesting family movie nights | ||||||
| 13 | and organizing fun activities for her younger cousins; she was | ||||||
| 14 | an old soul known for her sincere empathy and kindness, | ||||||
| 15 | putting the wants and needs of others before her own; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Ainsley Johnson was born on February 16, 2017, | ||||||
| 17 | and she passed away on April 28, 2025; at the time of her | ||||||
| 18 | passing, she was a second grader at Glenwood Elementary | ||||||
| 19 | School; she enjoyed dancing at Studio M Dance Center and | ||||||
| 20 | participating as a soccer player with the Springfield Area | ||||||
| 21 | Soccer Association (SASA) Youth Recreational League; she was | ||||||
| 22 | also a music lover, often singing along to any song she heard | ||||||
| 23 | and borrowing her father's AirPods while he was mowing to | ||||||
| 24 | listen along with him; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Bradley Lund was born on April 4, 2017, and he | ||||||
| 2 | passed away on June 2, 2025; at the time of his passing, he was | ||||||
| 3 | a second grader at Glenwood Elementary School; he delighted in | ||||||
| 4 | the simple joys of childhood and possessed a heart full of | ||||||
| 5 | wonder and a limitless capacity for joy; he found comfort in | ||||||
| 6 | story time snuggles with his mom and was an avid volunteer | ||||||
| 7 | alongside his family; he was a playful spirit known for his | ||||||
| 8 | curiosity, laughter, compassion, creativity, and the quiet joy | ||||||
| 9 | he radiated; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Although their lives were far too brief, these | ||||||
| 11 | five victims each brought unimaginable joy and light into the | ||||||
| 12 | lives of their respective families and friends, and their | ||||||
| 13 | legacies will live on through their loved ones, their | ||||||
| 14 | communities, and countless others who share in the grief of | ||||||
| 15 | these promising youths being tragically taken too soon; | ||||||
| 16 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that, on the one year | ||||||
| 19 | anniversary of this incident, we mourn the loss and celebrate | ||||||
| 20 | the lives of the five young victims of the Chatham YNOT | ||||||
| 21 | tragedy, Rylee D. Britton, Alma L. Buhnerkempe, Kathryn S. | ||||||
| 22 | Corley, Ainsley G. Johnson, and Bradley J. Lund, and we extend | ||||||
| 23 | our sincere condolences to their families, friends, and all | ||||||

| 1 | who knew and loved them; and be it further | ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to the families of Rylee Britton, Alma Buhnerkempe, | ||||||

| 5 | expression of our deepest sympathy. | ||||||
