| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Sandra Jean Booker, who passed away on | ||||||
| 4 | August 13, 2024; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Sandra Booker, the daughter of Judge A. Booker | ||||||
| 6 | and the late Wynona (Bea) Williams-Booker, was born in | ||||||
| 7 | Coatopa, Alabama on August 19, 1960; she committed to her | ||||||
| 8 | faith at an early age, joining First Corinthian Missionary | ||||||
| 9 | Baptist Church in 1970; she graduated from the North Chicago | ||||||
| 10 | school system in 1979, completed the basic nurse assistant | ||||||
| 11 | training program at the College of Lake County, and became a | ||||||
| 12 | licensed certified nursing assistant (CNA) in October 1983; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Sandra Booker began her career as a CNA at | ||||||
| 15 | Winchester House in 1983 and then transitioned to the Chicago | ||||||
| 16 | Medical School, now Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine, as a | ||||||
| 17 | medical assistant; she later served at the Lake County Health | ||||||
| 18 | Department from 1991 to 2013 in a variety of roles, including | ||||||
| 19 | home health nursing assistant, community health associate, and | ||||||
| 20 | senior public health assistant, forming lasting and impactful | ||||||
| 21 | relationships by working with teen mothers in Stepping | ||||||
| 22 | Together and with seniors in Home Health; she then worked as a | ||||||
| 23 | home-based specialist, respite care provider, and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | self-employed caregiver; in addition to her public health | ||||||
| 2 | career, she served the Genesee Theatre for more than 20 years | ||||||
| 3 | and was honored with a seat bearing her name; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Sandra Booker volunteered as a Lake County Adult | ||||||
| 5 | Probation Officer for over 20 years; she also dedicated time | ||||||
| 6 | to My Father's Business Organization, mentoring young | ||||||
| 7 | teenagers and teaching them essential life skills; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Sandra Booker loved to dance and spend time with | ||||||
| 9 | her family, including her children, Natisha Booker and Samuel | ||||||
| 10 | D.A. Gray; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Sandra Booker will be remembered for her vibrant | ||||||
| 12 | personality, ability to bring people together, and genuine | ||||||
| 13 | investment in the success of others; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Sandra Booker's work of serving youth, teen | ||||||
| 15 | mothers, and senior citizens is continued by the Sandra J. | ||||||
| 16 | Booker Foundation in Libertyville, which provides financial | ||||||
| 17 | assistance and strategic programming to uplift and empower | ||||||
| 18 | these populations in the Lake County community; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, The Sandra J. Booker Foundation has demonstrated | ||||||
| 20 | meaningful community impact since its founding by providing | ||||||
| 21 | financial support to Waukegan Township's Grandparents Raising | ||||||

| 1 | Grandchildren program, awarding financial assistance to | ||||||
| 2 | students attending the College of Lake County certified | ||||||
| 3 | nursing assistant program, partnering with Girls and Boys of | ||||||
| 4 | Character to sponsor an educational experience tour of | ||||||
| 5 | Washington, D.C., providing monthly food support to My | ||||||
| 6 | Father's Business Organization for an after-school program | ||||||
| 7 | focused on spiritual growth and essential educational and life | ||||||
| 8 | skills, partnering with Co-Pastor Cory Ratliff of Sign of the | ||||||
| 9 | Dove Church to sponsor students attending a summer sports and | ||||||
| 10 | academic camp, and providing financial support to senior | ||||||
| 11 | citizens for grocery and essential needs; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 14 | Sandra Jean Booker and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 15 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 16 | further | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of Sandra Booker as an expression of | ||||||
| 19 | our deepest sympathy. | ||||||
