SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Project Compassion, NFP on the occasion of its
420-year anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2005, Project Compassion
6has provided vital support to more than 200,000 homeless,
7disadvantaged, and low-income men, women, and children through
8providing access to food, shelter, seasonal supplies, hygiene
9items, life skills workshops, self-esteem and character
10development initiatives, and vocational training programs; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Project Compassion opened the Compassionate
12Resource Center in Belleville in 2011, an achievement that
13expanded the organization's capacity to serve the community
14through offering a free cafe, a laundry facility, and a
15therapy center focused on nonviolent trauma and
16trauma-informed care; and
 
17    WHEREAS, During the 2020 pandemic, Project Compassion
18launched Meal Time, an emergency meal initiative that provided
19hot meals to 15,000 families and partnered with 15 community
20organizations and churches to feed more than 30,000
21individuals across the region; and

1    WHEREAS, Project Compassion was founded by Rachel Jackson,
2who also established Empower-Me, the first self-esteem and
3self-worth program in St. Clair County; through partnerships
4with local school districts, the program inspires youth,
5especially girls, to build inner confidence, character, and a
6foundation for continued education; she has further extended
7this mission as host of the Girlz On Purpose Tour, empowering
8young women to lead with purpose and passion; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Project Compassion has received numerous local
10and national honors in recognition of the organization's
11service and impact, including the Barack Obama Silver
12Presidential Award for Community Service and a proclamation
13from the Mayor of Belleville in 2014 officially designating
14October 29th as Compassion Day; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
17Project Compassion, NFP on achieving 20 years of providing
18unrelenting dedication and love to those in the community who
19need it most, and we wish the organization many more years of
20continued success; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to Project Compassion as an expression of our esteem
23and respect.
