| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Jack D. Smith of Peoria, who passed |
| 4 | | away on September 8, 2025; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith was born to Otis O. and Orlana M. |
| 6 | | (Williams) Smith in Havana on December 29, 1939; he graduated |
| 7 | | from Havana High School in 1957; he served in the United States |
| 8 | | Navy; he married Reta Schaffer Wallace in 1970, and they had |
| 9 | | one son, Tony, before divorcing; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith worked for Caterpillar for 33 years; |
| 11 | | over the years, he also held part-time positions with the City |
| 12 | | of Havana, the Coast to Coast hardware store in Morton, Home |
| 13 | | Depot in Peoria, and Lowe's in East Peoria; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith was known for his generosity and his |
| 15 | | love for giving gifts, and his favorite holiday was Christmas; |
| 16 | | and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Jack Smith was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 18 | | his siblings, Dawnie List, Roy Richard "Dick" Smith, Lois |
| 19 | | Giebelhausen, and Sally Jackson; and one nephew and one niece; |
