SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jack D. Smith of Peoria, who passed
4away on September 8, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was born to Otis O. and Orlana M.
6(Williams) Smith in Havana on December 29, 1939; he graduated
7from Havana High School in 1957; he served in the United States
8Navy; he married Reta Schaffer Wallace in 1970, and they had
9one son, Tony, before divorcing; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Smith worked for Caterpillar for 33 years;
11over the years, he also held part-time positions with the City
12of Havana, the Coast to Coast hardware store in Morton, Home
13Depot in Peoria, and Lowe's in East Peoria; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was known for his generosity and his
15love for giving gifts, and his favorite holiday was Christmas;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was preceded in death by his parents;
18his siblings, Dawnie List, Roy Richard "Dick" Smith, Lois
19Giebelhausen, and Sally Jackson; and one nephew and one niece;

1    WHEREAS, Jack Smith is survived by his son, Roy Anthony
2"Tony" Smith; his stepchildren, Wayne Wallace, Dave Wallace,
3and Renee Shannon; his sister, Alta (Jess) Hackett; 13 nieces
4and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Jack D. Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Jack Smith as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
