SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Arthur S. "Art" Oakford of Peoria, who
4passed away on September 26, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Art Oakford was an Eagle Scout at heart; his
6values for all aspects of his life were based on the Boy Scout
7laws: To be Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous,
8Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Art Oakford's values formed the foundation of his
11family life and guided his parenting style, raising his
12daughters with love and an expectation to give to others, and
13for the grandchildren, "Gramp's Camps" created special
14memories for all; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Art Oakford repelled down a building in a
16Superman shirt in 2017 at the age of 86 to help raise money for
17one of his favorite organizations, the Peoria Friendship House
18of Christian Service; he could often be found cycling the
19streets of Peoria; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Art Oakford was a devoted family man, a pillar in
21the Peoria community, and a quiet philanthropist; and

1    WHEREAS, Art Oakford was preceded in death by his wife of
2over 68 years, Judy, and his daughters, Kitty Miller, Susan
3Champion, and Lynne Anderson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Art Oakford is survived by his daughter, Betsy
5(Tom) Hamilton; his brother, Dick (Carmen) Oakford; his
6sister, Mary Jo Smith; his sons-in-law, Steve Anderson and
7Mike Champion; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Arthur S. "Art" Oakford and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Art Oakford as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
