SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jordan B. Rifis, who passed away on
4February 20, 2025 at the age of 79; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis was born to Albert and Edith Rifis
6in Chicago on March 26, 1945; he was educated at Austin High
7School, and he attended Roosevelt University, where he earned
8a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on literature, writing, and law
9in 1968; he later received his Juris Doctor from the DePaul
10University College of Law in 1971; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis began his legal career in insurance
12law but soon left that work to pursue his true passion,
13fighting for the underdog; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis practiced family law, workers'
15compensation, and personal injury law for more than 50 years,
16never retiring and offering his clients thorough
17representation until the very end of his life; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis was known for taking on clients who
19had been rejected by other attorneys, finding pride in
20applying the law to protect the vulnerable; he was always an
21advocate for justice, compassion, and fairness, and his career

1left a lasting mark on countless lives; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis enjoyed spending time with his
3Tuesday Golf Club, monthly poker nights, and the Unitarian
4Universalist Congregation in Oak Park; these communities
5provided him with lasting friendships, travel experiences
6across the country, and meaningful exchanges of ideas and
7perspectives; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis' friends will especially miss his
9warmth, his humor, and his presence as an articulate, ardent
10Democrat; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis is survived by his wife of 37 years,
12Paula Cox; his sister, Lana (Al) Kushinsky; his children,
13Jennifer (Mark) Meng, Justin (Elizabeth) Rifis, and Jared
14(Morgan) Rifis; and his grandchildren, Jordyn, Nicholas,
15Quinn, Zoe, and Hudson; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Jordan B. Rifis and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
