| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Jordan B. Rifis, who passed away on | ||||||
| 4 | February 20, 2025 at the age of 79; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis was born to Albert and Edith Rifis | ||||||
| 6 | in Chicago on March 26, 1945; he was educated at Austin High | ||||||
| 7 | School, and he attended Roosevelt University, where he earned | ||||||
| 8 | a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on literature, writing, and law | ||||||
| 9 | in 1968; he later received his Juris Doctor from the DePaul | ||||||
| 10 | University College of Law in 1971; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis began his legal career in insurance | ||||||
| 12 | law but soon left that work to pursue his true passion, | ||||||
| 13 | fighting for the underdog; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis practiced family law, workers' | ||||||
| 15 | compensation, and personal injury law for more than 50 years, | ||||||
| 16 | never retiring and offering his clients thorough | ||||||
| 17 | representation until the very end of his life; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis was known for taking on clients who | ||||||
| 19 | had been rejected by other attorneys, finding pride in | ||||||
| 20 | applying the law to protect the vulnerable; he was always an | ||||||
| 21 | advocate for justice, compassion, and fairness, and his career | ||||||

| 1 | left a lasting mark on countless lives; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis enjoyed spending time with his | ||||||
| 3 | Tuesday Golf Club, monthly poker nights, and the Unitarian | ||||||
| 4 | Universalist Congregation in Oak Park; these communities | ||||||
| 5 | provided him with lasting friendships, travel experiences | ||||||
| 6 | across the country, and meaningful exchanges of ideas and | ||||||
| 7 | perspectives; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis' friends will especially miss his | ||||||
| 9 | warmth, his humor, and his presence as an articulate, ardent | ||||||
| 10 | Democrat; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jordan Rifis is survived by his wife of 37 years, | ||||||
| 12 | Paula Cox; his sister, Lana (Al) Kushinsky; his children, | ||||||
| 13 | Jennifer (Mark) Meng, Justin (Elizabeth) Rifis, and Jared | ||||||
| 14 | (Morgan) Rifis; and his grandchildren, Jordyn, Nicholas, | ||||||
| 15 | Quinn, Zoe, and Hudson; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Jordan B. Rifis and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
