SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jo Marie Bonell, who passed away on September 21, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Jo Bonell attended St. Ignatius Grade School and St. Scholastica High School, where she served as Student Council President; she graduated from the theater department and received her Juris Doctor from Loyola University; she later received her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Champaign; and

WHEREAS, Jo Bonell practiced law in Chicago for many years; she most recently served as the library director of the Des Plaines Public Library, which brought her great joy and fulfillment; and

WHEREAS, Jo Bonell enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, listening to the Beatles, and laughing with her many friends; and

WHEREAS, Jo Bonell will be remembered for her humor, her generosity, and her devotion to her friends, co-workers, and family; and

WHEREAS, Jo Bonell was the daughter of John and Jeanine Bonell; the sister of Marianne (Jump), Margaret (the late Thomas) Suerth, Kathy (Aaron) Crane, Jerry (Barb) Bonell, and Carolyn (Time) Saylor; the aunt of 11 nieces and nephews; and the great-aunt of three grand-nieces and grand-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jo Marie Bonell and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jo Bonell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
