SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Meg Ryan Fitzgerald of Chicago, who
4passed away on February 28, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald, the daughter of Dan and Nancy
6(Braida) Fitzgerald, was born in Spring Valley on April 26,
71985; she married Kevin Turk on April 21, 2017; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald was raised in Oglesby, where she
9attended Holy Family School and St. Bede Academy; she enjoyed
10spending time with her loved ones, especially her many cousins
11and friends, reading, attending music concerts, learning, and
12playing sports; she always honored commitments and dedicated
13herself to doing her best, and she was known for her
14thoughtfulness, kindness, patience, and her abilities in
15listening, showing gratitude, and expressing thankfulness; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald received a Bachelor of Arts in
17Early Childhood Education from DePaul University in 2007 and a
18Master of Arts in Child Development with a specialization in
19Administration from the Erikson Institute in Chicago in 2015;
20she began her professional teaching career as a preschool
21teacher in 2007 for the Diocese of Chicago at Immaculate
22Conception Catholic School in the Old Town neighborhood, where

1she later became its early childhood director; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald was hired as a founding teacher
3for Bennett Day School, a new progressive school in the West
4Loop in Chicago, in 2013; she later served as curriculum
5coordinator and director of the Early Childhood program as the
6school expanded to serve pre-K through high school students,
7and she played an integral part on the planning team for the
8school's building expansion; she also served as a presenter at
9multiple early childhood education conferences and was
10published in the National Association for the Education of
11Young Children's journal, Teaching Young Children; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald was a member of the Immaculate
13Conception-St. Joseph School Board, and she served as vice
14president of the Commercial Park Advisory Council in the West
15Town neighborhood; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald was preceded in death by her
17maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Lou Braida; her
18paternal grandparents, Donald and Gertrude (Roemmich)
19Fitzgerald; her uncles, Rick Braida and David Fitzgerald; and
20her aunt, Jane (Braida) Dzierzynski; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Meg Fitzgerald is survived by her husband of
22eight years, Kevin; her twin children, Edith Jane Turk and

1William Fitzgerald Turk; her sister, Dana Fitzgerald; her
2parents; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and
3friends; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Meg Ryan Fitzgerald and extend our sincere condolences to her
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Meg Fitzgerald as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
