SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, For over 60 years, surgical technology has grown
3to meet the ever-increasing demand for well-educated,
4highly-skilled, and versatile surgical technologists; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Surgical technologists are entrusted with the
6lives and well-being of patients and provide a critical
7service during surgical procedures; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Over 100,000 surgical technologists nationwide
9are an integral part of the surgical team committed to
10providing the highest quality of surgical care to patients;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Surgical technologists are responsible for the
13application of sterile and aseptic technique in the operating
14room, ensuring that equipment functions properly and
15facilitating safe and effective conduct during invasive
16surgical procedure; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Surgical technologists strive to prevent
18life-threatening surgical site infections and maximize patient
19safety; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Certified surgical technologists graduate from an

1accredited program and receive certification conferred by the
2National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
3based upon passage of the national examination; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The surgical technologist's motto "Aeger Primo",
5which means "the patient first", reflects total commitment to
6patient safety and advocacy; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the week of
9September 21 through September 27, 2025 as Surgical Technology
10Week in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we honor these dedicated healthcare
12professionals for their hard work and expertise in patient
13safety in the operating room that often goes unnoticed, and we
14also recognize their educators for providing them with
15specialized training in surgical technology.
