SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3commend Detective Michael Griffin of the Moline Police
4Department Criminal Investigations unit for his unrelenting
5commitment to pursuing justice in the 1996 disappearance of
611-year-old Trudy Appleby; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Trudy Appleby was last seen near her family's
8residence in East Moline on August 21, 1996; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Over almost three decades, the Quad Cities
10refused to let Trudy Appleby's case go cold, with family,
11friends, and community members hosting annual candlelight
12vigils on the anniversary of her disappearance and sponsoring
13billboards bearing her image to keep continued attention on
14the case; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Through the tireless work by investigators over
16the decades since the disappearance of Trudy Appleby and in
17congruence with the unwavering support of the community and
18the gathering of new pieces of information, an arrest has been
19made in the case, which has been under Det. Griffin's
20leadership; and
 
21    WHEREAS, A grand jury in Henry County indicted a subject

1for the murder of Trudy Appleby on August 13, 2025, and he
2faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of
3concealment of a homicidal death; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Thanks to the dedication, skill, and persistence
5of Det. Griffin and his fellow Moline Police Department
6officers, Trudy Appleby's family and friends are one step
7closer to achieving answers and justice; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Detective
10Michael Griffin of the Moline Police Department Criminal
11Investigations unit for his unrelenting commitment to pursuing
12justice in the 1996 disappearance of 11-year-old Trudy
13Appleby, and we thank Det. Griffin and the Moline Police
14Department for their continued service and dedication towards
15protecting residents and solving cases; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Det. Griffin as an expression of our esteem and
18respect.
