| 2 |  |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened  | 
| 3 |  | to learn of the death of William A. "Bill" Hickerson of  | 
| 4 |  | Springfield, who passed away on July 7, 2025; and   | 
| 5 |  |     WHEREAS, Bill Hickerson, the son of Dr. Robert Hickerson  | 
| 6 |  | Sr. and Mary Jean Hickerson, was born in Burlington, Iowa on  | 
| 7 |  | November 6, 1940; he and his family later settled in  | 
| 8 |  | Galesburg, Illinois; during his early education, he attended  | 
| 9 |  | the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville;  | 
| 10 |  | he proceeded to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale  | 
| 11 |  | and Sangamon State University in Springfield, where he earned  | 
| 12 |  | a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology; he married Donna Conway  | 
| 13 |  | Miller in 1992, and she later preceded him in death in 2018;  | 
| 14 |  | and   | 
| 15 |  |     WHEREAS, Bill Hickerson, better known by the moniker "Dr.  | 
| 16 |  | Swing", shared his love and vast knowledge of music across the  | 
| 17 |  | radio airways for over 40 years; his programs included Jazz  | 
| 18 |  | Tonight and Mulligan Stew on WSSR FM Sangamon State University  | 
| 19 |  | and University of Illinois, The Bill Hickerson Show on WVEM  | 
| 20 |  | FM, Strike Up the Band on WTAX AM, Swing that Music on WQNA FM,  | 
| 21 |  | and Swing that Music, which streamed live from Studio H at his  | 
| 22 |  | home; he was involved with the Central Illinois Jazz Society  | 
| 23 |  | and was fortunate to have interviewed many recording artists  | 
     |

| 1 |  | through the years, including Count Basie, Tony Bennett, Steve  | 
| 2 |  | Allen, Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Torme, Dave Brubek, Doc  | 
| 3 |  | Severinsen, and Tiny Tim; and   | 
| 4 |  |     WHEREAS, Bill Hickerson was the consummate entertainer,  | 
| 5 |  | often hosting robust live and recorded music parties with his  | 
| 6 |  | wife and, most recently, in his home; as a gifted pianist, he  | 
| 7 |  | was often hired for parties and receptions and also found  | 
| 8 |  | great joy in sharing his talents as a volunteer, playing for  | 
| 9 |  | local senior homes and at the Illinois State Fair; he was also  | 
| 10 |  | skilled in delivering one-liners, limericks, and jokes, and he  | 
| 11 |  | never missed an opportunity to sing his original song, "Hominy  | 
| 12 |  | Grits"; and   | 
| 13 |  |     WHEREAS, Bill Hickerson loved golfing, playing cards and  | 
| 14 |  | pool, bicycling, bowling, boating, and fishing; he especially  | 
| 15 |  | loved spending time with his two great-grandchildren; and   | 
| 16 |  |     WHEREAS, Bill Hickerson was a truly remarkable man who was  | 
| 17 |  | admired and respected by all; and   | 
| 18 |  |     WHEREAS, Bill Hickerson is survived by his best friend,  | 
| 19 |  | Lucy; his daughters, Becky Jane (Jim) Schlouch and Pauline  | 
| 20 |  | Miller; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his  | 
| 21 |  | siblings, Dr. Robert Hickerson Jr. and Patricia Kunz; and  | 
| 22 |  | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it   |

| 1 |  |     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL  | 
| 2 |  | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of  | 
| 3 |  | William A. "Bill" Hickerson and extend our sincere condolences  | 
| 4 |  | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be  | 
| 5 |  | it further   | 
| 6 |  |     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be  | 
| 7 |  | presented to the family of Bill Hickerson as an expression of  | 
| 8 |  | our deepest sympathy. |
