SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The One Big Beautiful Bill, recently signed into
3law by President Donald Trump, contains the Educational Choice
4for Children Act, which offers a federal tax credit of up to
5$1,700 for individuals that donate to Scholarship Granting
6Organizations, thereby increasing funding for these
7organizations to help families pay for their children to
8attend the K-12 school of their choice; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The list of eligible educational expenses within
10the Educational Choice for Children Act also includes fees,
11tutoring, educational therapies, transportation, technology,
12and other expenses for children attending public schools,
13private schools, and home schools; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Currently, 35 states have similar versions of the
15program in place at the state level; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Illinois' own version of the program, the Invest
17in Kids Act, was allowed to expire at the end of 2023, forcing
18many low-income families back into our State's failing public
19education system; and
 
20    WHEREAS, One's ability to choose where their child attends
21school should not be a privilege reserved only for the wealthy

1and well-connected; and
 
2    WHEREAS, It is imperative that each state choose to opt
3into the provisions of the Educational Choice for Children
4Act; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge Governor JB
7Pritzker to opt Illinois into the provisions of the
8Educational Choice for Children Act; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10delivered to Governor JB Pritzker.
