| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Stuart Allen Yaffe, M.D. of | ||||||
| 4 | Springfield, who passed away on June 11, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Yaffe was born to Samuel and Florence | ||||||
| 6 | (Gralnick) Yaffe in Springfield on July 6, 1927; he graduated | ||||||
| 7 | from Springfield High School in 1945; he served stateside in | ||||||
| 8 | the United States Army during World War II for 18 months; he | ||||||
| 9 | attended and graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks | ||||||
| 10 | before Alaska gained statehood; he earned his medical degree | ||||||
| 11 | from St. Louis University; he married Natalie Goldstein in St. | ||||||
| 12 | Louis, Missouri on December 21, 1952, and she preceded him in | ||||||
| 13 | death on March 13, 2021; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Yaffe returned to Springfield to join the | ||||||
| 15 | general practice of Dr. Rex Campbell; he viewed smoking as the | ||||||
| 16 | number one avoidable cause of death in our society and was | ||||||
| 17 | serving as president of the Sangamon County Medical Society | ||||||
| 18 | when an agreement was reached in 1989 to ban smoking in St. | ||||||
| 19 | John's and Memorial Hospitals; after his daughter, Kim, | ||||||
| 20 | finished her family medicine residency in 1990, she joined his | ||||||
| 21 | practice, and they worked side-by-side as Springfield Clinic | ||||||
| 22 | partners for a quarter century until he retired at age 89; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Yaffe was a life member of the American | ||||||
| 2 | Academy of Family Practice, which he joined in 1962, and he was | ||||||
| 3 | a longtime member of Temple B'rith Sholom in Springfield; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Yaffe began pursuing running as a hobby at | ||||||
| 5 | the age of 40, and he could often be seen running in Washington | ||||||
| 6 | Park six days a week or more well into his 70s; his passion for | ||||||
| 7 | running led him to making great friends and completing 38 | ||||||
| 8 | marathons; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Yaffe will be remembered as a proud and | ||||||
| 10 | loving husband, father, and grandfather and as a physician who | ||||||
| 11 | remained dedicated to the welfare of his patients; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Yaffe is survived by his children, Scott | ||||||
| 13 | (Edie) Yaffe and Kim (Bernie) Schoenburg, M.D., and four | ||||||
| 14 | grandchildren, Steven (Allison) Yaffe, David Yaffe, Sam (Nigel | ||||||
| 15 | Cooney) Schoenburg, and Elly (Victor) Schoenburg Obasaju; | ||||||
| 16 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 19 | Stuart Allen Yaffe, M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 20 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 21 | further | ||||||
