SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Nancy M. Hahn of Springfield, who
4passed away on May 5, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nancy Hahn, the daughter of Mercedes and Robert
6McHugh, was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on January 25,
71932; she graduated from Ursuline Academy in St. Louis,
8Missouri; she and her family moved to Springfield in 1951; she
9attended Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri and
10Saint Catherine's College in Saint Paul, Minnesota; she
11received a Master of Arts from University of Illinois
12Springfield; she married Carl H. Becker Jr. in 1956, and they
13had three children and were married for 30 years before their
14divorce; she later married Ralph C. Hahn; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Nancy Hahn was a member of the Springfield Junior
16League, where she served as a docent at the Illinois State
17Museum for many years and participated as a guide in all
18Abraham Lincoln historical events; she was also active in many
19other organizations, including as a lifetime member of the
20Lincoln Memorial Garden, a leader of a Land of Lincoln Girl
21Scout troop, and a member of the University of Illinois Alumni
22Advisory Board, the University of Illinois Springfield
23Chancellor's Circle, the Women for Women of Springfield

1Community Foundation, the EO Chapter of the Philanthropic
2Educational Organization, the Springfield Art Association
3Board of Directors, Illini Country Club, and the Illinois
4Women's Golf Association's traveling golf team, where she once
5won a longest drive competition; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Nancy Hahn was a member of Blessed Sacrament
7Parish, where she frequently prepared food for the priests,
8and she was also a founding member of Christ the King Parish;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Nancy Hahn enjoyed walking her dogs, gardening,
11watercolor painting, bird-watching, entertaining, cooking,
12golfing, hiking, boating, art collecting, going to museums
13with her son, John, and traveling, including taking
14bird-watching trips to Belize and Costa Rica and bringing
15groups to cooking school and on barge trips in France; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Nancy Hahn was forever young at heart, and she
17lived true to her values of family, friends, faith, community,
18and philanthropy; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Nancy Hahn was preceded in death by two husbands
20and one grandchild; and
 
21    WHEREAS Nancy Hahn was the mother of Ann Marie "Aimee"

1(Steve Heaviland) Lanphere, Martha (Dr. Dwight) Hirsch, and
2John Carl Becker; the grandmother of four; and the
3great-grandmother of three; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Nancy M. Hahn and extend our sincere condolences to her
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Nancy Hahn as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
