SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Francis J. "Bud" Daly Jr., who passed
4away on January 28, 2025 at the age of 92; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bud Daly was born to Joseph and Evelyn (Fagen)
6Daly in Chicago on April 11, 1932; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bud Daly attended St. Philip's High School,
8opening an auto parts store with his friends, Tim and Ralph,
9shortly after graduating; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bud Daly married his wife, Mary, in 1960, and
11together, they shared 52 years of marriage before Mary's
12passing in 2012; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bud Daly had a successful 30-year career in sales
14when, at a crossroads in his personal and professional life,
15he decided to visit the church to reflect; Fr. Lennon noticed
16him in the pews and started a conversation that ultimately
17changed Bud's direction and outlook; though he did not share
18specific details, he spoke of it until his final days, and his
19children would refer to him as "Fr. Bud" when they believed
20advice was about to be delivered; and

1    WHEREAS, Bud Daly retired in 2000, and he spent his free
2time traveling the world with Mary; their favorite destination
3was Ireland, and they took their children there frequently;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bud Daly was an avid sports fan, always rooting
6for his favorite teams, including Notre Dame, the Chicago
7Bears, and the Chicago Cubs, which he finally saw win the World
8Series in 2016; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bud Daly was incredible at making life-long
10friends at every stage, always staying in touch, and he taught
11his family what true love is in life; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bud Daly was preceded in death by his parents;
13his brother, William Daly; his sisters, Mary Patricia "Pat"
14Sorto and Evelyn "Sally" Tully; and his beloved cousin,
15Margaret "Margie" Hanley Harmon; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bud Daly is survived by his children, Timothy
17(Roisin) Daly and Janet (Kyle) Melancon, and his
18grandchildren, Hannah Melancon, Kyle Melancon, Kieran Daly,
19and Aidan Daly; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

2to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
3it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
