SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Shirley Mungai of Oak Park, who passed
4away on October 4, 2024 at the age of 93; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai was born in Pendleton, Indiana on
6November 15, 1930 and moved to Oak Park in the 1940s; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai attended St. Edmunds School and
8later Oak Park River Forest High School; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai married Joseph J. Mungai before
10they moved to Elgin to start a family, and they had four
11children together; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai moved back to Oak Park, living at
13the Oak Park Arms for six years and attending mass at St.
14Edmunds or Ascension every Sunday, and she was a frequent
15sight around Oak Park, enjoying long walks all over town; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai loved children, and making them
17happy was a source of her own joy; life at the Oak Park Arms
18enabled her to see many preschoolers for whom she knitted
19dolls and stuffed animals; and

1    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai found great comfort and joy in her
2connection to faith, and she was always looking for new
3adventures or to spend a day "gallivanting", one of her
4favorite words; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai will be remembered for her keen
6sense of humor, kindness, generosity, unconditional love for
7those close to her, and care for anyone in need of comfort; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai was preceded in death by her eight
9siblings; her husband; her daughter-in-law, Bonny; and her
10son, Joe; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Shirley Mungai is survived by her children, Diana
12(Dianne Jones), Maria (Henry Sampson) and Ed; her
13grandchildren, Abby (Dustin King) and Phil; her
14step-granddaughters, Beth (Eric Vandemark) and Gwen (Jim
15Walski); her step-great-granddaughters Madeline, Penny, and
16Evelyn; many nieces and nephews; and her sisters-in-law, June
17and Rita; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Shirley Mungai and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
22further
