SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Alma Lee Buhnerkempe of Chatham, who 
4passed away on April 28, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was born in Springfield to 
6Billie (Huber) and Michael Buhnerkempe on July 10, 2017; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was a second grader at Chatham 
8Elementary School, and each day, she would head to school with 
9a smile on her face, excited to learn and play with her 
10friends; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe aspired to be an artist and 
12loved to paint; she also played piano and loved to dance while 
13attempting to make YouTube videos; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was a social butterfly who could 
15talk to anyone and had a strong sense of community, fostered by 
16the Girl Scouts; she was a devoted sister and loved spending 
17time with her family, especially her cousins; she had an 
18infectious energy, a goofy sense of humor, and a sense of 
19compassion that was boundless; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe loved sports, especially

1gymnastics; she could often be found on the soccer field or 
2basketball court with her Queen Bees, laughing and playing 
3with a group of friends that were nearly inseparable; she was a 
4budding Illinois basketball, LA Galaxy, and STL City fan and 
5enjoyed popcorn and ice cream at many games; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe had the heart of an explorer; 
7she visited 17 states and loved discovering new places, with 
8her favorite place being Walt Disney World; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was preceded in death by her 
10grandfather, Anthony Huber; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe is survived by her parents; her 
12brother, Will; her grandparents, Dana and Kurt Armstrong and 
13Barb and John Buhnerkempe; her aunts and uncles, Lauren 
14(Darby) Sabo, Deric (Amanda) Armstrong, Morgan (James) 
15Scheffers, Jeff (Emily) Buhnerkempe, and Tommy Buhnerkempe; 
16and her cousins, Otto, Mack, Cole, Cameron, Noah, Hadley, 
17Harper, Aaron, and Mason; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
20Alma Lee Buhnerkempe and extend our sincere condolences to her 
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it

3of our deepest sympathy.
