SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jane Elisabeth (Shears) Emerson of
4Divernon, who passed away on May 2, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jane Emerson, the daughter of William and
6Elisabeth (Mayer) Shears, was born in Springfield on April 2,
71940; she graduated from Divernon High School in 1958; she
8married Leonard Emerson in Divernon on November 25, 1960; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jane Emerson was a stay-at-home mom while her
10children were young and worked with her husband, Leonard, in
11the family business, Emerson Press, which they started in 1968
12in the garage of their family home and later moved to the
13square in Divernon; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jane Emerson was a lifelong and deeply involved
15resident of Divernon; she was the organist at the Divernon
16Presbyterian Church for over 65 years, where she also served
17on the board, and she was the secretary of the Divernon Public
18Library Board and a lifetime member of the Divernon American
19Legion Auxiliary; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jane Emerson was a devoted wife, mother,
21grandmother, and great-grandmother; and

1    WHEREAS, Jane Emerson was preceded in death by her
2parents; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jane Emerson is survived by her husband of 64
4years, Leonard; her children, Melissa (Jamie Stowers) Layton,
5Stephanie (Doug) McDannald, Brett (Keeley) Emerson, Prentice
6(Julie Brant) Emerson, and Erika (Mike) Campas; her brother,
7Allan (Pat) Shears; 11 grandchildren; and three
8great-granddaughters; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Jane Elisabeth (Shears) Emerson and extend our sincere
12condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Jane Emerson as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
