SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham
4on the occasion of marking 150 years of service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital originated
6when Sisters Euphemia Gaertner, Fortunata Honkamp, and
7Franziska Dreisvogt of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis
8arrived in Effingham on November 15, 1875, where they began
9serving the poor and the sick; their efforts led to the opening
10of St. Anthony's Hospital on September 15, 1877, and the
11hospital was later renamed St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in
121954; and
 
13    WHEREAS, HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, an
14affiliate of the Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), is a
15fully accredited, not-for-profit, general acute care health
16facility today; and
 
17    WHEREAS, HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital has 133
18licensed beds and a workforce of more than 700 employees, and
19its medical staff represents more than 70 local physician
20providers in 26 specialties and includes over 80 consulting
21physicians; and

1    WHEREAS, HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital primarily
2provides services to Effingham County and Jasper County along
3with portions of Clark, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Fayette,
4Marion, Richland, and Shelby Counties, serving a population of
5almost 200,000 people; and
 
6    WHEREAS, For more than 150 years, HSHS St. Anthony's
7Memorial Hospital has approached administering healthcare to
8its patients by combining compassion and the human touch, and
9the hospital continues to do so while also providing patients
10with the most modern technologies available today; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate HSHS
14St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital on celebrating its 150th
15anniversary, and we thank its staff for continuing to serve
16with courage, commitment, and faith; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital as an
19expression of our esteem and respect.
