| 2 |  |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened  | 
| 3 |  | to learn of the death of Steven Terry "Steve" Slemer of Glen  | 
| 4 |  | Carbon, who passed away on April 19, 2025; and   | 
| 5 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer, the son of Rudolph and Catherine  | 
| 6 |  | (Beczkala) Slemer, was born in Highland on November 23, 1959;  | 
| 7 |  | and   | 
| 8 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer was the third generation in his  | 
| 9 |  | family to serve in the Glen Carbon Fire Department; his badge  | 
| 10 |  | was pinned in 1979, marking the beginning of a legacy of  | 
| 11 |  | bravery and dedication; he worked at the Wood River Refinery  | 
| 12 |  | in Roxana for over three decades, where he was a valued member  | 
| 13 |  | of the Emergency Response Team, and his extraordinary courage  | 
| 14 |  | and skills were recognized with the prestigious Red Cross  | 
| 15 |  | Lifesaving Award; and   | 
| 16 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer's dedication to his community  | 
| 17 |  | extended beyond his professional life; he was elected as a  | 
| 18 |  | trustee for the Village of Glen Carbon, where he served with  | 
| 19 |  | pride and integrity; and   | 
| 20 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer was a devoted parishioner of St.  | 
| 21 |  | Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon and served as a past  | 
     |

| 1 |  | president of the Czechoslovak Society of America, CSA  | 
| 2 |  | Fraternal Life, Lodge 26, Svobodny Rolnik Chapter; and   | 
| 3 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer found joy in the great outdoors,  | 
| 4 |  | whether he was hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden, and  | 
| 5 |  | his passion for beekeeping led him to become a member of the  | 
| 6 |  | Illinois State Beekeepers Association; and   | 
| 7 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer was known for his generous spirit  | 
| 8 |  | and always being ready to lend a helping hand; he was also a  | 
| 9 |  | handyman who never found a project too daunting; and   | 
| 10 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer was committed and dedicated to his  | 
| 11 |  | family, and his most cherished moments were those spent with  | 
| 12 |  | his loved ones, especially his grandchildren; and   | 
| 13 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer was a loving father, a doting  | 
| 14 |  | grandfather, and a beloved brother and friend, and his  | 
| 15 |  | selflessness, compassion, and love will continue to inspire  | 
| 16 |  | all who knew and loved him; and   | 
| 17 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer was preceded in death by his  | 
| 18 |  | parents; his brothers, Rudolph Slemer Jr. and Robert "Robbie"  | 
| 19 |  | Slemer; and his brother-in-law, Dan Moad; and   | 
| 20 |  |     WHEREAS, Steve Slemer is survived by his daughters, Terri  |

| 1 |  | (Kyle Bohle) Slemer and Crystal (Aubrey) Mayes; two grandsons;  | 
| 2 |  | his siblings, Mary Ann Moad, Ronald (Debra) Slemer, and Stan  | 
| 3 |  | (Deborah) Slemer; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Slemer and  | 
| 4 |  | Cindy Slemer; his cousin, Frank Slemer; his close friends,  | 
| 5 |  | Mark Abram and Tony Hargis; and many nieces, nephews, other  | 
| 6 |  | relatives, and friends; therefore, be it   | 
| 7 |  |     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL  | 
| 8 |  | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of  | 
| 9 |  | Steven Terry "Steve" Slemer and extend our sincere condolences  | 
| 10 |  | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be  | 
| 11 |  | it further   | 
| 12 |  |     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be  | 
| 13 |  | presented to the family of Steve Slemer as an expression of our  | 
| 14 |  | deepest sympathy. |
