| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Eldon L. Quick of Rantoul, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on April 26, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick was born on a farm in rural Jewell | ||||||
| 6 | County, Kansas to Roy T. and Anna A. (Robinett) Quick on | ||||||
| 7 | November 3, 1930, and his family lived on various tenant farms | ||||||
| 8 | in Jewell County during the Great Depression; he graduated | ||||||
| 9 | from Kiowa Kansas High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. | ||||||
| 10 | Air Force in 1950 at the beginning of the Korean War; he was | ||||||
| 11 | stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, where he met | ||||||
| 12 | his wife, Frances, and was honorably discharged in November | ||||||
| 13 | 1954 with the rank of staff sergeant; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick was appointed as a police officer | ||||||
| 15 | with the Rantoul Police Department in September 1957; he rose | ||||||
| 16 | through the ranks and became chief of police in 1966, a | ||||||
| 17 | position in which he served for more than 17 years, retiring on | ||||||
| 18 | September 1, 1983 as the longest-serving chief in the history | ||||||
| 19 | of Rantoul; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick was elected to the Rantoul Village | ||||||
| 21 | Board in 1987; he was elected as the Champaign County Coroner | ||||||
| 22 | in November 1988 and reelected in 1992 and 1996; he retired on | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | December 31, 1998 after 10 years; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick built his own home in Rantoul in | ||||||
| 3 | 1965; he also helped his children with building and remodeling | ||||||
| 4 | projects in their homes, which included helping his son, | ||||||
| 5 | Richard, build a new home in Rantoul in 1983 and remodeling and | ||||||
| 6 | building room additions to his other three children's homes in | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois, Wisconsin, and Texas; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick's hobbies included carpentry, | ||||||
| 9 | woodworking, and singing in his church choir and the Martin | ||||||
| 10 | Luther men's chorus; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
| 12 | Frances; his daughter, Karen Haman; his parents; three | ||||||
| 13 | brothers; two sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Irene | ||||||
| 14 | (Funkhouser) Quick; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Eldon Quick is survived by his children, Richard | ||||||
| 16 | (Carol), Kathy, and Patricia (Billy); his grandchildren, | ||||||
| 17 | Marlana (Chad) Smith, Marshall Quick, Kristopher Haman, | ||||||
| 18 | Kristina Haman, and Ryan (Allison) Waters; six | ||||||
| 19 | great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; | ||||||
| 20 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||

| 1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 2 | Eldon L. Quick and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 3 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of Eldon Quick as an expression of our | ||||||
| 7 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
