| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of James Eugene "Jim" Kidder of Dunlap, |
| 4 | | who passed away on April 15, 2025; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Kidder was born in Edgerton, Wisconsin to |
| 6 | | Earl A. and Louise (Maas) Kidder on August 19, 1940; he |
| 7 | | attended Merrifield Grade School and Milton High School, where |
| 8 | | he was influenced by his band teacher who encouraged him to |
| 9 | | continue to play trumpet; he graduated from Illinois Wesleyan |
| 10 | | University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education; he |
| 11 | | earned a Master of Science in School Administration from |
| 12 | | Bradley University; while teaching band in Lacon, Illinois, he |
| 13 | | met his future wife, Floride "Ede" Barnes, and they married on |
| 14 | | June 6, 1965; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jim Kidder began his career in retail music in |
| 16 | | 1965 by joining Byerly Music as a roadman, calling on schools |
| 17 | | and learning about what helped to build successful programs; a |
| 18 | | lifelong advocate for music education, he and Ede founded |
| 19 | | Kidder Music Service in 1971, which celebrated its 50th |
| 20 | | anniversary in 2024; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Jim Kidder was involved in both national and |
| 22 | | local organizations; he was on the board of the National |
