| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Larry N. Varner of Kewanee, formerly | ||||||
| 4 | of Galva, who passed away on April 19, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Larry Varner was born to D. Steve and Avis | ||||||
| 6 | (Beede) Varner in Fort Knox, Kentucky on September 2, 1944; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from Monticello High School in Monticello, Illinois | ||||||
| 8 | in 1962; he earned his Bachelor of Science in English | ||||||
| 9 | Education from Illinois State University in 1965; he married | ||||||
| 10 | Patty Carper at the Morton Methodist Church in Morton on March | ||||||
| 11 | 22, 1969; he received both a Master of Science and an Advanced | ||||||
| 12 | Certificate in Counseling from the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 13 | Urbana-Champaign in 1970 and 1971, respectively; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Larry Varner taught English at Pekin High School | ||||||
| 15 | during the 1965-1966 school year and the 1968-1969 school | ||||||
| 16 | year, between which he served in the United States Army from | ||||||
| 17 | 1966 to 1968; he began his counseling career at Galva High | ||||||
| 18 | School in the fall of 1970, and he retired from Galva | ||||||
| 19 | Junior-Senior High School in the spring of 1999; he served as | ||||||
| 20 | coach of the Galva High School Scholastic Team from 1973 | ||||||
| 21 | through 2008, and he was inducted into the Illinois High | ||||||
| 22 | School Scholastic Coaches Hall of Fame; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Larry Varner joined the Galva Lions Club in 2000, | ||||||
| 2 | where he served as secretary for an extended time; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Larry Varner loved fishing in his spare time, | ||||||
| 4 | belonging to the Little John Conservation Club and the Hook | ||||||
| 5 | and Bullet Conservation Club and fishing at both clubs' lakes | ||||||
| 6 | often; he spent many summer vacations fishing in the Minnesota | ||||||
| 7 | Boundary Waters, the Turtle Flambeau area in northern | ||||||
| 8 | Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and he often | ||||||
| 9 | fished alongside his successive Brittany spaniels; he also | ||||||
| 10 | enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking several weeks-long trips | ||||||
| 11 | all over the United States and Canada with his brother, Bruce; | ||||||
| 12 | and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Larry Varner was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 14 | and his brother, Alan Varner; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Larry Varner is survived by his wife of 56 years, | ||||||
| 16 | Patty; his sons, Mark (Andreia Krause) Varner and Ben (Erin) | ||||||
| 17 | Varner; two grandchildren; his brothers, Bruce (Connie) Varner | ||||||
| 18 | and Eric (Sue) Varner; and his last Brittany spaniel, Maggie; | ||||||
| 19 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 22 | Larry N. Varner and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||

| 1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 2 | further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
