SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jack Dale Glass of Metropolis, who passed away on January 20, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass was born to Dale and Audrey Glass in Metropolis on September 16, 1948; he attended Metropolis High School; he also attended Paducah Junior College and Murray State University, both in Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass, throughout college and beyond, worked as an ironworker; during his career, he helped construct the Interstate 24 (I-24) Bridge; he later worked as a job superintendent at B&W Construction Co. for the Northern U.S. before he took a position as a maintenance supervisor at Southern Illinois Power Cooperative (SIPC) in Marion, a position he held for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass was a man of faith and a member of Heartland Church in Paducah, Kentucky, where he was a part of The Dwelling Sunday School; he and his wife, Cheryl, traveled internationally, including several trips to Indonesia to visit their son and his family, who are missionaries there; he also participated in a mission trip to Mexico in recent years; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass was a man of many talents, including being an excellent craftsman who built his home, along with his barn and garage, in 1982; his chosen sport was baseball, and he played with the Murray State University baseball team, the Breds, and coached his sons throughout their high school years; he also enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks and going quail hunting, especially in the company of friends and alongside his dogs, Scout and Finn; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass was a devoted family man, and his family was the center of his life; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Jack Glass, at the time of his passing, was survived by his wife of 52 years, Cheryl Wyatt Glass; his daughter, Candice E. (Jimmy) Martin; his twin sons, Marcus D. (Leslie) Glass and Matthew W. (Amanda) Glass; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and his siblings, Lavonne Goins and Dan (Christie) Glass; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jack Dale Glass and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Glass as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
