SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James A. "Jim" Wright of Ware, who
4passed away on January 20, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Wright was born to Wayne Karl "Kate" and
6Ivory (Wilson) Wright in Union County on July 13, 1938; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jim Wright worked at the Murray Center in
8Centralia for five years before transferring to the Choate
9Mental Health and Development Center, retiring after 25 years
10of service; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jim Wright was a strong AFSCME union member as an
12employee and after his retirement, serving as president of
13AFSCME Retirees Local Subchapter 90 for 30 years; he made
14hundreds of trips to Springfield to fight against layoffs
15while advocating to protect pensions and to ensure healthcare
16coverage; he received a plaque from AFSCME in commemoration of
17his years of dedication to the union and for inspiring others
18to keep fighting the good fight; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jim Wright was an active member of the Democratic
20Party, serving as a precinct committeeman for over 50 years;
21he worked diligently towards the election of hundreds of

1office holders at the local, state, and federal levels; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jim Wright loved watching his grandsons
3participate in sports, playing bingo, going to the casino,
4eating fried chicken, and watching any sport on television,
5especially the St. Louis Cardinals; in his younger years, he
6enjoyed fishing and hunting; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jim Wright was preceded in death by his parents
8and his siblings, Bill Wright, Barbara Foster, Lois Dickerson,
9Ruth Allen, Sondra Clover, and Audrey Wright; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Wright is survived by his daughter, Vonda
11(Steve) Benefield; two grandsons; his siblings, Richard
12Wright, Beverly Ellis, Sharon Smith, Vicki Wilson, Debbie
13Wright, and Karen Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews,
14extended family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17James A. "Jim" Wright and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Jim Wright as an expression of our
