SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied
4career and remarkable achievements; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén, born January 20, 1964, is an
6exceptional and revered former major league baseball player,
7manager, philanthropist, and current sports broadcaster; he
8played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop for 16
9seasons, primarily with the Chicago White Sox, from 1985 to
102000; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén was born in Ocumare del Tuy,
12Venezuela; he became known for his defensive skills and fiery
13personality; he won the American League Rookie of the Year
14award in 1985 and a Gold Glove; he was a three-time All-Star
15and was considered one of the best defensive shortstops of his
16era; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén became the manager of the Chicago
18White Sox in 2004 and made history in 2005 as the first
19Latino-born manager to win a World Series, leading the team to
20its first championship in 88 years; he managed the Chicago
21White Sox from 2004 to 2011; and

1    WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén transitioned into coaching and
2management after retiring as a player; beyond baseball, he is
3actively involved in philanthropy; he founded OG13.org, a
4foundation dedicated to supporting underserved communities
5through education, sports programs, and social initiatives,
6focusing on providing resources for youth development,
7particularly in the Chicago area and Venezuela; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén has worked as a television analyst
9and commentator since his managerial career, covering MLB and
10international baseball, and his outspoken and charismatic
11style has made him a popular figure in baseball media; and
 
12    WHEREAS, On October 26, 2025, Chicago White Sox fans will
13celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series
14victory over the Houston Astros in a four-game sweep, which
15marked their first World Series championship since 1917;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
19Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied career and
20remarkable achievements, and we wish him continued success in
21all his future endeavors; and be it further
