| 2 |  |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to  | 
| 3 |  | congratulate Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied  | 
| 4 |  | career and remarkable achievements; and   | 
| 5 |  |     WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén, born January 20, 1964, is an  | 
| 6 |  | exceptional and revered former major league baseball player,  | 
| 7 |  | manager, philanthropist, and current sports broadcaster; he  | 
| 8 |  | played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop for 16  | 
| 9 |  | seasons, primarily with the Chicago White Sox, from 1985 to  | 
| 10 |  | 2000; and   | 
| 11 |  |     WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén was born in Ocumare del Tuy,  | 
| 12 |  | Venezuela; he became known for his defensive skills and fiery  | 
| 13 |  | personality; he won the American League Rookie of the Year  | 
| 14 |  | award in 1985 and a Gold Glove; he was a three-time All-Star  | 
| 15 |  | and was considered one of the best defensive shortstops of his  | 
| 16 |  | era; and   | 
| 17 |  |     WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén became the manager of the Chicago  | 
| 18 |  | White Sox in 2004 and made history in 2005 as the first  | 
| 19 |  | Latino-born manager to win a World Series, leading the team to  | 
| 20 |  | its first championship in 88 years; he managed the Chicago  | 
| 21 |  | White Sox from 2004 to 2011; and   |

| 1 |  |     WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén transitioned into coaching and  | 
| 2 |  | management after retiring as a player; beyond baseball, he is  | 
| 3 |  | actively involved in philanthropy; he founded OG13.org, a  | 
| 4 |  | foundation dedicated to supporting underserved communities  | 
| 5 |  | through education, sports programs, and social initiatives,  | 
| 6 |  | focusing on providing resources for youth development,  | 
| 7 |  | particularly in the Chicago area and Venezuela; and   | 
| 8 |  |     WHEREAS, Ozzie Guillén has worked as a television analyst  | 
| 9 |  | and commentator since his managerial career, covering MLB and  | 
| 10 |  | international baseball, and his outspoken and charismatic  | 
| 11 |  | style has made him a popular figure in baseball media; and   | 
| 12 |  |     WHEREAS, On October 26, 2025, Chicago White Sox fans will  | 
| 13 |  | celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series  | 
| 14 |  | victory over the Houston Astros in a four-game sweep, which  | 
| 15 |  | marked their first World Series championship since 1917;  | 
| 16 |  | therefore, be it   | 
| 17 |  |     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL  | 
| 18 |  | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate  | 
| 19 |  | Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén Barrios on his storied career and  | 
| 20 |  | remarkable achievements, and we wish him continued success in  | 
| 21 |  | all his future endeavors; and be it further   |
