SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois is a national leader in agricultural
3productivity, with more than 75% of the State's land used for
4farming, and soil health is critical to the sustainability and
5resilience of our agricultural systems; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Healthy soil is essential for growing food,
7improving water quality, enhancing biodiversity, storing
8carbon, and mitigating the effects of climate change; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Illinois family farmers have been stewards of the
10land for generations, using innovative practices and
11conservation techniques to preserve soil health for future
12generations; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Promoting soil health aligns with the goals of
14environmental stewardship, economic vitality, and community
15well-being across rural and urban areas of Illinois; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Raising awareness about the importance of soil
17health will encourage greater adoption of conservation
18practices and support the work of farmers, soil scientists,
19and conservation organizations throughout the State; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Recognizing the contributions of Illinois family

1farmers and supporting soil health education will help ensure
2the long-term productivity and sustainability of Illinois
3agriculture; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the first
6full week of March 2026 as Soil Health Week in the State of
7Illinois to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of
8soil health and to honor the essential role of Illinois family
9farmers in preserving our land and feeding our communities;
10and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we encourage schools, agricultural
12organizations, conservation groups, and communities to observe
13Soil Health Week through educational activities, outreach, and
14the promotion of soil stewardship practices; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16delivered to the Illinois Department of Agriculture and to
17soil and water conservation districts across the State in
18recognition of their contributions to this vital cause.
