SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Lillie Mae Tillis of North Lawndale;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lillie Tillis was born in Lambert, Mississippi to
6Mamie and N.I. Tillis on December 22, 1950, joining her older
7brother, Willie Smith, as part of the family; at the age of 11,
8she moved with her family to Chicago's West Side; she attended
9Hess Elementary School and graduated from Carter H. Harrison
10High School; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lillie Tillis earned a Keypunch Operation
12certificate from the College of Automation in 1979, which
13opened doors to a wide range of roles from sales clerk to legal
14and data entry positions; she worked at Bank of America until
15retiring in 2010 to help care for her grandchildren; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lillie Tillis moved to Summit later in life,
17where she built new bonds with neighbors and friends; she took
18a job at a nearby game room in 2021, where she enjoyed
19socializing with regulars and neighbors alike; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lillie Tillis was a member of St. Rest MB Church;
21she loved music and laughter and was never far from the dance

1floor; she also liked to play the slot machines, and her
2laughter could often be heard when she hit a lucky streak; she
3had a gift for friendship, and her open heart, sharp wit, and
4no-nonsense honesty made her unforgettable; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lillie Tillis is survived by her children,
6Elaine, Darren (Sherrell), and Latrice Lavon Tillis; her
7grandchildren, Tekeshia Monique Wesley, Morgan Michelle
8Tillis, and Xavier Darren Tillis; her grand-dog, Saweetie
9Tillis; and her great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Denise Roache,
10Jayce Joel Burns, and Amia Janai Burns; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Lillie Mae Tillis and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Lillie Tillis as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
