SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Fay Michael "Mike" Sullivan of
4Mattoon, who passed away on April 17, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan was born to Charles F. and Mary C.
6(Holmes) Sullivan in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 15, 1947; he
7married Linda B. Sims in Mattoon on July 25, 1970; he served as
8a Navy Seabee in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era; he
9attended Lake Land College, where he served as president of
10the Student Government and started the annual Spring Carnival;
11he received his bachelor's degree in agricultural industries
12from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan worked at Consolidated
14Communications in Mattoon for a number of years; he later took
15a position as a district manager of direct business sales at
16Verizon Wireless in central Illinois; he retired as director
17of the Small Business Development Center at Illinois Eastern
18Community Colleges; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan held numerous memberships and
20affiliations, including serving on the Lake Land College Board
21of Trustees for 37 years, as a trustee of Illinois Community
22College, and as a member of the Lake Land College Alumni

1Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4325 and
2Honor Guard, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus
3for 54 years; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan had an unwavering commitment to his
5community, serving as a member of the Mattoon Area Pads
6Community Organization, the City of Mattoon Housing Committee,
7the City of Mattoon Planning & Zoning Committee, and the St.
8Mary's Catholic School Board; for many years, he also served
9as president of the Humboldt School PTA and as a volunteer
10firefighter for the Humboldt Township Fire Department; he was
11a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
12in Mattoon, where he was an usher for many years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan, fueled by his passion for
14veterans, animals, and his community, was instrumental in
15obtaining the Veterans Memorial at Lake Land College, the
16restoration of the U.S. Army tank at Peterson Park, and the
17establishment of the Mattoon Community Dog Park, all in
18Mattoon; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan found his greatest joy in the
20presence of his loved ones, cherishing both his immediate and
21extended family; he will be remembered as a pillar of his
22family and for his spirit of love, family, and community; and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan was preceded in death by his
2parents; his brothers, Pat Sullivan, Frank Sullivan, and John
3Sullivan; his sister, Mary Alice Ames; and his
4brothers-in-law, Bob Sims, Eddie Sims, Ron Sims, Dick Sims,
5and Roger Ames; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan is survived by his wife of 54
7years, Linda; his children, Beth L. (Nathan) Weiss and Ben M.
8Sullivan; his brothers, Tim (Rebecca) Sullivan and Dan
9(Priscilla) Sullivan; his sisters, Jody (Don) Sniff and Anna
10(Gary) Cook; one grandchild and two step-grandchildren; his
11brothers-in-law, Roger (Sami) Sims, Ken (Janette) Sims, Joe
12Sims, and Bill Sims; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Sims and
13Johna Sims; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Fay Michael "Mike" Sullivan and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Mike Sullivan as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
