SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has consistently
3demonstrated a deep commitment to the promotion of animal
4welfare; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steer or bovine tailing is a specific rodeo event
6where a rider on horseback chases down a running steer, bull,
7or calf and grabs onto the animal's tail; the rider then wraps
8the tail around his leg, slamming the animal to the ground; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Acts of bovine tailing can cause significant
10injuries to the animals involved; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Acts of bovine tailing in Illinois have been
12particularly prevalent; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bovine tailing is replaceable as a rodeo event,
14and its continued practice constitutes animal abuse;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 23,
182026 as Animal Welfare Day in the State of Illinois to reflect
19on the importance of just and humane treatment of animals; and
20be it further

2and its associated harms.
