SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) and its
4more than 130 affiliate members on the organization's 50th
5anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, IEC was established in 1975 and has operated
7continuously to advance equitable public policies that ensure
8a healthy environment across Illinois over the last five
9decades; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Every Illinoisan has benefited greatly from the
11environmental protections that IEC, its members, and
12volunteers have secured; and
 
13    WHEREAS, IEC, its members, and its volunteers have
14generously shared with the members of this body policy and
15scientific expertise on a vast array of important
16environmental issues, including clean water, clean energy,
17conservation, sustainable agriculture, clean transportation,
18waste reduction, and environmental justice; and
 
19    WHEREAS, IEC has been the key stakeholder in the formation
20and convening of the Illinois Legislative Green Caucus and the
21Illinois Legislative Outdoor Caucus; and

1    WHEREAS, IEC has organized annual opportunities at the
2State Capitol during each regular legislative session for
3legislators to connect with their constituents and learn about
4the environmental issues most important to them; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The importance of IEC's ongoing work only grows
6as scientists predict serious global and local impacts of our
7changing climate and increasingly extreme weather events;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the
11Illinois Environmental Council and its more than 130 affiliate
12members on the organization's 50th anniversary; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we thank IEC affiliate members, staff, and
15volunteers over the years for their collective efforts to
16safeguard Illinois, its people, its plants and animals, and
17the natural systems on which all life depends by building
18power for people and the environment; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
20presented to Executive Director Jennifer Walling, board
21presidents Rev. Brian Sauder and Delmar Gillus, and IEC as an
