SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Craig A. Roberts of Washington, D.C.,
4formerly of Alton, who passed away on February 15, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts, the son of Jack and Rosemary
6(Pichee) Roberts, was born in Alton on June 17, 1962; he
7graduated from Alton High School in 1980; he attended Lewis
8and Clark Community College, received a Bachelor of Science
9from Western Illinois University in 1984, and continued his
10education at the University of Illinois Springfield; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts began his extensive career in
12politics as program director of the Illinois House Republican
13Organization in 1986; he then worked as assistant to the
14Lieutenant Governor of Illinois and later served as assistant
15to the secretary of the Illinois Secretary of State for seven
16years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts then moved to Washington, D.C.,
18where he worked as chief of staff for Congressman John Shimkus
19from 1997 to 2021; he later served as a special advisor for the
20House Committee on Administration and then as a consultant,
21concluding his career as senior vice president at Milne,
22Wiener & Shofe Global Strategies; and

1    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts served as president of the House
2Chiefs of Staff Association, the longest-existing bipartisan
3staff association in the history of Congress, from 2015 to
42020; he also served as secretary of the Capitol Hill Club
5Board; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts co-authored several editions of the
7Almanac of Illinois Politics during his time in state
8government; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts was generous and humble,
10demonstrating his kindness to family, friends, and colleagues
11in a myriad of ways, and he will be remembered as a dedicated
12public servant and an invaluable mentor to many; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts was preceded in death by his
14parents; his sister, Sheryl Goodpasture; and his grandparents;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Craig Roberts is survived by his siblings, Steven
17Roberts, Stacy (Jim) Giddens, Cole Roberts, Shannon (Bill)
18Willhite, and Susan (Curt) Robbins; his 17 nephews and nieces;
19and many great-nieces and great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Craig A. Roberts and extend our sincere condolences to his
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Craig Roberts as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
