SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Margaret Ann Timoney of Springfield,
4who passed away on March 8, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was born in Springfield to
6Harold and Mary Madelyn Hannah Carter on March 2, 1936; she
7attended St. Joseph Grade School, graduated from Ursuline
8Academy in 1954, and attended Springfield College; she married
9Lawrence "Larry" Timoney in Springfield on July 28, 1956; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney retired from the City of
11Springfield; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was a member of St. Joseph's
13Church, and her faith was very important to her; she attended
14daily mass and was active in her parish community; she was
15always putting the needs of others before her own; she
16actively volunteered at Ursuline Academy, St. Joseph School
17and Church, Griffin High School, Sacred Heart Griffin High
18School, St. John's Breadline, St. Joseph's Home, Daily Bread,
19Meals on Wheels, and the Senior Citizens Center; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney loved working with numbers;
21after retiring, she took college accounting and tax prep

1classes; she enjoyed helping family, friends, and others at
2the senior center with completing their taxes; she also
3counted money at St. Joseph's Church on a weekly basis; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney enjoyed collecting nativity sets
5and holy family figurines; she regularly gifted porcelain
6nativity sets, handmade by her Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Charlie
7Carter, for wedding presents; she enjoyed baking and was known
8for sharing her delicious gooey butter cake at every family,
9school, church, and sporting event; she also enjoyed traveling
10with her family and friends and watching and attending
11sporting events; she was a competitive bowler and relished her
12beloved Chicago Cubs finally winning the World Series in 2016;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was extremely proud of her Irish
15heritage and was honored to have been chosen as Springfield's
16Irishwoman of the Year by the Sons & Daughters of Erin in 2016;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney was preceded in death by her
19husband, Larry; her parents; and her sisters, Catherine (Bob)
20Byrnes and Janet (Don) Humphrey; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Margaret Timoney is survived by her children,
22Paula Timoney (Emile Snijders), Kevin Timoney (Jean Bruner

1Jachino), Marty Timoney, Laura "Mickey" (John) Dearing, Tim
2(Cindy) Timoney, and Bridget Timoney; her grandsons, Michael
3(Kayla) Timoney, Ryan (Laura) Timoney, Conner (Estefania)
4Timoney, and Tyler Dearing (Rachael Cook); her
5great-grandchildren, Margaret "Maggie" Ann, Savannah Mae,
6Lachlan James, Remy Elizabeth, Rory Kathryn, and Hudson
7Carter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore,
8be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Margaret Ann Timoney and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Margaret Timoney as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
