SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Public transportation is a lifeline for many of
3our most vulnerable residents, providing residents without any
4other form of transportation the ability to travel to doctor's
5appointments, grocery stores, and other vital locations; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Public transportation in downstate counties can
7require travel of over 25 miles from pick-up to drop-off
8locations, and being denied access to public transportation in
9these areas could be the difference between life and death;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, There are many counties in Illinois that are the
12single provider of public transportation, making it the only
13reliable option for residents in a given county; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Downstate Operating Assistance Program (DOAP)
15covers only 65% of eligible operating costs, while the county
16is required to contribute 35% of the operating costs, putting
17an undue burden on single county providers; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the
20Downstate Operating Assistance Program (DOAP).
