SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Milena A. McConchie of Hawthorn Woods,
4who passed away on February 21, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Milena McConchie was born on June 24, 1973; she
6was raised in Varna, Bulgaria, and she lived through the
7collapse of Communism in 1990 when she was 16 years old; she
8subsequently attended America University in Bulgaria, where
9she excelled; and
 
10    WHEREAS, During her collegiate tenure, Milena McConchie
11went on a summer program on free market economics offered by
12The Fund for American Studies in Prague, Czech Republic; while
13there, she met her future husband, Dan McConchie, and they
14were engaged six months later; shortly thereafter, she was
15diagnosed with cancer linked to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear
16disaster; despite this, she and Dan remained committed to
17their relationship and were married during the middle of her
18cancer treatment; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Milena McConchie and Dan both became accomplished
20professionals and had two wonderful daughters; as her husband
21pursued his dreams and became an state senator for Illinois,
22she encouraged his career aspirations by always sending him to

1work with containers of homemade food for his lunches,
2expressing that it was her form of participating; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Milena McConchie, even while undergoing immense
4suffering due to the cancer, radiation, and chemotherapy
5treatments, rarely showed how much they pained her; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Milena McConchie will be remembered as a lover of
7freedom, a devoted follower of her faith, and a woman of
8considerable strength; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Milena McConchie is survived by her husband,
10retired Illinois State Senator Dan McConchie, and her
11daughters, Sophia and Kristina; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Milena A. McConchie and extend our sincere condolences to her
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Milena McConchie as an expression
19of our deepest sympathy.
