SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1337 of Mount
4Prospect on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, For 100 years, VFW Post 1337 has been advocating
6for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces in personal and
7political matters, providing camaraderie for returning
8military personnel and their families while serving as a
9community organization through its volunteer work; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The VFW Post 1337 clubhouse, built by locally
11skilled tradesmen and craftsmen who were veterans of World
12Wars I and II in the post-war years of 1949 and 1950, was
13created as a location for veterans to share their
14service-related connections and memories, to commemorate the
15past, and to have a place of belonging; and
 
16    WHEREAS, VFW Post 1337 has been presented with the status
17of All-American Post, a prestigious recognition given by the
18national VFW organization for member participation in VFW
19programs and for growth in membership numbers, for six years
20in a row; and
 
21    WHEREAS, In 1899, the VFW of the United States was founded

1by veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine
2Insurrection as a loose association of many smaller local
3veterans' organizations in order to secure rights and benefits
4for their service, as many of these veterans arrived home sick
5or wounded without long-term medical care options or a
6veterans' pension to sustain themselves; and
 
7    WHEREAS, National and local VFW chapters have been
8instrumental in advocating for veterans and service members'
9rights on the county, state, and national levels, such as the
10creation of the G.I. Bills in the 20th and 21st centuries,
11expanding educational benefits for service members, increasing
12healthcare accessibility for Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent
13Orange and Gulf War veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome,
14and championing for the inclusion and recognition of female
15veterans; and
 
16    WHEREAS, National and local VFW posts have been
17responsible for securing the funding towards the creation of
18the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans
19Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Military Women's
20Memorial to recognize the warriors of the past, preserving
21their stories and sacrifices for the benefit of future
22generations; therefore, be it
 
23    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
2Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1337 of Mount Prospect on
3its 100th anniversary; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Post Commander Les Durov of VFW Post 1337 as an
6expression of our esteem and respect.
