SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Samuel H. "Sam" Porter of Ipava, who
4passed away on January 17, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sam Porter was born in Macomb to Paul and Lela
6(Howell) Porter on September 21, 1934; he served in the U.S.
7Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955; he married Linda
8Tyler in Ipava on October 14, 1956; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sam Porter was a lifelong row crop farmer,
10cattleman, and inventor; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sam Porter was a member of the Ipava Presbyterian
12Church for 78 years; he was also a member of the Ipava Fire
13Department, Ipava American Legion Post #17, the V.I.T. School
14Board, and the Fulton County Farm Bureau; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Sam Porter stayed busy with work and community
16involvement, but he also took time to enjoy the small things in
17life; he enjoyed playing cards, attending the Fulton County
18Fair, and being the target of his best buddy Durg's practical
19jokes; he and his wife enjoyed attending their grandchildren's
20activities, including livestock shows and sporting events,
21often attending multiple events in one day; they enjoyed

1traveling with friends, especially with the Ipava dune buggy
2crew to Branson, Missouri; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Sam Porter was preceded in death by his parents;
4his siblings, Bill Porter, Kathryn Miller, and Mary Keefauver;
5his daughter, Christie Kaye Porter; and his sister-in-law,
6Janette Porter; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sam Porter is survived by his wife, Linda; his
8children, Craig (Cindy) Porter, Brian (Lonna) Porter, and
9Brenda (Dave) Crouse; his grandchildren, Katrina (Brian)
10Hartsock, Derek (Nicole) Porter, Levi (Abby) Porter, Kristen
11(Mike) Peters, Laci (Ryan) Hildebrand, Clay (Kelsey) Crouse,
12and Kylie (Seth) Kessler; his great-grandchildren, Ava
13Hartsock, Evan Hartsock, Leah Porter, Mya Porter, Fulton
14Peters, Rhett Peters, Lainey Peters, and Crew Kessler; his
15sister-in-law, Nancy Porter; and his brothers-in-law, Norm
16Miller and Don Keefauver; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Samuel H. "Sam" Porter and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
