SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, March 20th has been designated as International
3Francophonie Day to celebrate the diversity, richness, and
4contributions of the French-speaking world; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Illinois is home to a vibrant and growing
6population of French-speaking residents who contribute to the
7social, cultural, and economic fabric of our state; and
 
8    WHEREAS, French is one of the official languages of
9Illinois and has deep historical ties through both our
10educational institutions and global diplomatic and business
11relations; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The global Francophonie community includes over
13300 million people across five continents who are united by a
14shared commitment to cultural diversity, human rights, and the
15promotion of peace; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The French language and culture have shaped
17Illinois through literature, art, cuisine, architecture, and
18historical connections that continue to enrich our
19communities; and
 
20    WHEREAS, It is important to foster an inclusive

1environment where French-speaking individuals feel supported,
2valued, and empowered in their personal, professional, and
3educational pursuits and for Illinois employers to consider
4hiring French-speaking individuals and provide support to help
5them integrate effectively into the workforce; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 20,
92025 as Francophonie Day in the State of Illinois; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we encourage all Illinois citizens to
12observe this day by reflecting on the contributions of the
13Francophonie community and by continuing to support
14initiatives that promote the French language and culture.
