SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jesse I. Elston Jr., who passed away
4on December 29, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jesse Elston was born in Chicago to Jesse and
6Corrine Elston on August 1, 1946; while young, he was a member
7of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chicago and attended Forestville
8Elementary School; he graduated from Dunbar High School in
9Chicago; he served in the United States Navy and received an
10Honorable Discharge on January 10, 1969; he married Cassandra
11Ward Holbert in August 2018; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jesse Elston worked at the Calumet City Library;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jesse Elston was a devoted and loving husband,
15father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend; he loved his
16family, his work and church families, and all the Calumet City
17and Thornton Township community; he enjoyed bid whist,
18watching football, traveling whenever possible, and barbequing
19with his bottle of Hennessy VSOP Privilege Cognac and a can of
20Miller's next to him; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jesse Elston's love for others drove him to

1always be there, whether volunteering for neighborhood or
2political events or delivering flowers and balloons on
3Valentine Day to the women at his job and throughout other
4areas of Calumet City; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jesse Elston was preceded in death by his
6parents; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jesse Elston is survived by his wife, Cassandra
8Elston; his sister, Jacqueline Rivera; his stepdaughter,
9Yolanda Charis Holbert; his daughters, Ericka (Terrell)
10Jackso, Jasmyne Frowner, Kellie Avery, Ericka Abraham, and
11Kaneesha Grooms; his sons, Roderick Elston, Marquette Elston,
12and Anthony Calloway; and numerous extended family members,
13friends, and community; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Jesse I. Elston Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Jesse Elston as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
