HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Helen 
4Pattrick, who passed away on June 12, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Pattrick was born to Joseph Smith and Hixie 
6Mae Smith on July 13, 1945; she was raised in Opelika, Alabama, 
7where she graduated from J.W. Darden High School in 1963; she 
8then moved to New York City to join her sisters; she married 
9Willie M. "Pat" Pattrick on August 30, 1966, and they 
10relocated to Markham, Illinois in 1973, where they built a 
11life together for 44 years until his passing in 2010; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Helen Pattrick worked for the American Bar 
13Association during her professional career, faithfully serving 
14until her retirement in 2008; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Helen Pattrick committed to her faith at an early 
16age and was baptized at Ferguson Chapel C.M.E. Church in 
17Opelika, Alabama; after moving from Port Chester, New York to 
18Markham, Illinois, she became a devoted and active member of 
19Christ First Baptist Church for more than 40 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Helen Pattrick, known for her radiant smile, deep 
21dimples, and warm spirit, possessed the remarkable ability to

1see the good in others and offer guidance with both wisdom and 
2grace; a hardworking and determined woman, she led by example 
3and inspired those around her through her actions; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Helen Pattrick is survived by her son, Michael; 
5her siblings, Gloria Smith, Barbara Bandy, and Paul Smith; her 
6sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Lyons; three grandsons; and a host 
7of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family 
8members; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
10HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we mourn the passing of Helen Pattrick and extend our sincere 
12condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
13her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to the family of Helen Pattrick as an expression of 
16our deepest sympathy.
