HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate CITGO on the occasion of 
4the 100th anniversary of its Lemont Refinery; and
 
5    WHEREAS, CITGO, one of the most iconic retail brands in 
6the United States, began as Lemont Refinery Services in 1926; 
7today, the company employs more than 1,150 employees and 
8contractors with an average annual economic impact of $383 
9million; and
 
10    WHEREAS, CITGO has built its reputation on providing 
11quality products and dependable services for people on the go; 
12over the years, the company has helped keep the economy strong 
13not only through its vast array of products, such as gasoline, 
14diesel fuel, jet fuel, lubricants, refined waxes, and 
15petrochemicals, but also through the hardworking people who 
16refine, market, and transport them; and
 
17    WHEREAS, CITGO, as a good corporate neighbor, strives to 
18care for the communities of the people it serves through a 
19number of programs, including the company's Caring for Our 
20Environment grants, a 12-year initiative that has funded $1.1 
21million in grants, contributed 9,974 volunteer hours, and 
22restored 250 acres of land, in addition to its STEM grants,

1through which it has awarded more than $1.6 million to local 
2schools, supporting an average of 6,842 students each year; 
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, CITGO also supports local communities through its 
5Team CITGO volunteer organization, which is comprised of 
6employees and their families who donate an average of 2,000 
7hours annually to charitable organizations and have raised 
8more than $3.4 million to fund 75 United Way agencies; since 
92008, the volunteer organization has raised more than $13 
10million to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an 
11organization seeking a cure for neuromuscular degeneration in 
12young people and adults; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
14HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate CITGO on the 100th anniversary of its Lemont 
16Refinery, and we thank the company for its many significant 
17contributions to the citizens of Illinois; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to CITGO as an expression of our respect and esteem.
