HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are proud to recognize those citizens who served our nation with honor, lived lives of dedication to their families and communities, and earned their final resting place among our country's heroes; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Nicholas Schroeder was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on July 13, 1907; he earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa, and he subsequently taught high school and coached football and basketball before answering the call to military duty; and

WHEREAS, During World War II, Ernest Schroeder proudly served as an officer in the United States Navy, completing three and a half years of active duty in the Pacific Theater; and

WHEREAS, Following his distinguished military service, Ernest Schroeder built a successful 30-year career in the pharmaceutical industry as national field sales manager for Cutter Laboratories; and; and

WHEREAS, At age 66, Ernest Schroeder married his beloved second wife, Carolyn; he embraced fatherhood with immense joy and devotion, notably becoming the first father to serve as a "room mother" at his children's elementary school; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Ann Schroeder was born to Carl and Edna Stopher in Wheeling, Illinois on March 16, 1943; she dedicated her professional life to nursing and retail management while remaining devoted to her family; and

WHEREAS, Ernest and Carolyn Schroeder shared 33 wonderful years of marriage that were filled with deep love, shared passions, and devotion to their children, Jeffrey and Elizabeth, and their grandson, Donovan; and

WHEREAS, Following the passing of Ernest Schroeder on July 15, 2006, at the age of 99, and Carolyn Schroeder on December 7, 2019, at the age of 76, their legacy of sacrifice, service, and devotion continues to inspire all who knew them; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his honorable service in the United States Navy during World War II, Ernest and Carolyn Schroeder are to be laid to rest together at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia on July 27, 2026; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the life and military service of World War II Navy veteran Ernest Nicholas Schroeder and the devotion of his wife, Carolyn Ann Schroeder; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express our utmost respect as Ernest and Carolyn Schroeder are reburied and laid to eternal rest together at Arlington National Cemetery; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ernest and Carolyn Schroeder as an expression of our esteem.
